About Oils

I have been doing watercolor drawings/paintings for close to twenty years. I simply tape off a variety of sizes in a watercolor sketch book, and I’m always ready to paint. I carry a backpack with my art supplies in my car, so I’m always ready.

Through these small pieces, I get a feel for wherever I am----- Color, light, atmosphere, time of year. This is a great way to record a trip without taking a lot of time or many supplies.

Before I began painting with watercolors and oils on location, I had always sketched with a pencil or pen. When traveling with artist friends, we would critique each other’s work in the evenings. It never seemed quite fair that I would have black and white drawings, and they would show these gorgeous, colorful paintings to critique. I started painting again, and loved it! The spontaneity of painting “en plane air” is something that cannot be matched. All the works you see here were painted at their respective locations.
